How are you doing? (english)

First of all: Sorry about the delay but it was too crazy here! I couldn’t even manage to START writing… anyway – here the well deserved updates from Down Under:

DAY 340 – 351 / LAST WEEKS ON MY OWN
Well, where to start… maybe with the job. I did well in the trial even if I thought more than once about just leaving the place! But as it was the only Café that came back to me so far I decided to go with the trial for the rest of the week. It was chaotic! I have never seen anything more inefficient and had a lot of discussions with my Manager (Jenny, Chinese) because I basically didn´t care if she would give me the job or not. Our chef was really nice, David from Scotland. I had hard times with his accent but I still understood him better than Jenny – what a combination! The Aussie who interviewed me, Julian, is Jenny´s boyfriend and manager of a few Cafés and because of that not around a lot. Well, she still offered me the Job and I took it as I thought it´s better than nothing for now and the hours are just too good (Mo-Fr from 8:30am till 3:00pm). But it got worse. When I arrived at work on Monday morning, David just didn´t show up anymore! He just left and so we were really busy the next 2 days, with me being new and only the two of us. On the third day Julian came to help us and they immediately posted an add for a new chef. I kept on arguing with Jenny a lot! It was better when Julian was around but still – there were many points that annoyed me and needed to be said.
Enough from work for now. Beside work I continued hanging out with Tim and Bron a lot as their study classes were not on yet and we had the evenings free. On one Friday we went for “After work drinks” which is very common here (as well as in NZL). So after meeting at the german “Hofbräuhaus”, and after some beers and brezels, we hopped from one bar to the other. After the third I lost track of how many glasses of wine I already had – and not only me ;) We had the worst hangover and I couldn´t do anything on the Saturday – except from joining the “Horror movie night” with Tacco´s – yummi :D
Now after having a job again I booked myself a haircut (which was MORE than necessary!), which is really helpful with the heat, too. I played tennis a few more times as well and decided to get a parcel sent over from my parents with one of my racquets, tennis shoes, some sports clothes, more contacts, some other clothes I miss aso. We decided that should be my birthday present J Woohoo!

DAY 352 – 354 / APOLLO BAY
Suddenly the Apollo Bay weekend was ahead of us! How exciting J We started on a Friday evening and had dinner on the way. Everybody was quite exhausted from the week so we kept it quiet for the first night.
Saturday started with a nice breakfast in town and a cool apple cider at the markets. We had great weather and planned to go to the beach. As no one was really keen on lying in the sun all day we took a cricket set as well as all tools we could find to make some sand sculptures as the sand looked good for that. It became a great day! Bronya and I collaborated on a Viking looking out to the ocean (inspired by our Norwegian friend Idar who was with us as well). Idar and Tim started one, too and Sam, fully the architect, was building a proper sand castle and we were all quite busy for a few hours. After that I had my first cricket game, which was choice! It turned out that I´m a proper batsman (must be from tennis – basically no one could stop me ;) – but sucked a bit in balling. The way of throwing the ball is so different that I actually hurt my elbow L Anyway, it was great! Later we had a huge Barbie with Sangria and wine, a photo shooting and some dancing entertainment ;) What a great day!
Sunday we went for breakfast again. It was a bit cloudy and everyone was keen on sand sculptures again – so we went down to the beach once more J. After cleaning up the beach house we grabbed some ice cream and made our way back to Melbourne. Has been great to be out of town for a few days J

DAY 355 – 360 / LAST DAYS ON MY OWN
One more week to go!
During this week it came to my mind that my flight back to Munich would leave from Auckland without me. I nearly forgot about it… and when I finally thought about it, it was exactly the time when the plane left and I was imagining how they would call my name at the airport J It´s an incredible feeling to do something like that!
I was quite busy the last few days before my birthday to sort out my health insurance, further applications etc.
Every day after work I kept checking the advertisements for fashion jobs and there are actually a lot out there. Some are restricted to residents only; others are too far away from what I can offer. But quite a few would match in my opinion, I just had no luck so far. I registered with every fashion agency I could find and hope they come back to me soon in terms for an interview or phone call. Fingers crossed!

DAY 361 – 368 / BIRTHDAY AND ADAM´S ARRIVAL
And then the 3rd of March was there. I actually forgot about my birthday the whole time ;) We picked up Adam from the airport in the morning and after a shower we made our way to the breakfast place I booked. With great food and some bubbles in our bellys we visited the “Brunswick music festival”, had some drinks and enjoyed the vibes. J This is a great thing about Melbourne: there is a festival going on nearly all the time! Each suburb celebrates itself and there are heaps of live bands, fireworks and other stuff ;) It is great to have Adam by my side again even if it doesn´t feel that real yet. It was a great day and I got a voucher for the icebar in the CBD (in case it´s getting to hot – and it would be) and Adam brought me a Jade carving necklace from New Zealand – something that was still missing J AWESOME!
The next days we spent organising his mobile phone, bank account and therefore had a first glance at the CBD together. We caught up with Tim and Bron for Pizza on the weekend and checked out the “Sandstorm Events”, which sponsored a Sand sculpture exhibition in Frankston. Adam took a card and will have a look of getting involved into that as they get payed for doing them J How great is that!
Beside that we had to deal with the hottest heat wave in about 30 years! It was constantly over 30 degrees for 9 days in a row!!! I really like the heat but when you are working or trying to sleep it becomes annoying. We really struggled to find sleep at all. Well, we survived it! But there were quite a few fires going on and one just stopped 10 meters away from Tim´s work place in Epping (one of the last suburbs). I attached some pictures. It´s not too bad to live in a milder climate but you as well realise why it is that hot. The winds coming down from the center of the country make it e.g. hotter in Melbs than Sydney. I remember my first time in Australia there was a serious water shortage and they still have that now and then. Luckily this has been better for the last few years as everyone saves as much as possible. Hard times for long hair ;)

Ok guys, that´s it for this time. But as I didn´t find the time to post this letter IN time just continue reading on the next one hehe  – I even changed the font after some complains ;)

Cu later,
Baba
