Coming home (english)

The second to last Newsletter – before I come home. After you dealed all very well with the “Shock” from last time, here we go again. Not with a Shock but we´ve made a decision. See yourself:

// DAY 593 – 623
// CAFÉ
The Spanish girl is no longer working with us but we found another Barista, who has already worked with our coffee brand, instead. She will covering me from December onwards. Working with the others is not as much fun as it used to be – except with Fatima (and Tenille, who unfortunately quit :(). The other girls are just missing a bit of humour if you ask me... well, it´s not for much longer.
Unfortunately nothing happened in terms of the certificate yet. I´m not sure if I´ll get that before I leave. Beside that it varies between being busy and quiet. I still enjoy it but realise as well that the challenges are nearly gone. Of course I can still improve but it slowly gets a bit boring. Anyway, I´ve learnt a lot – as well about cooking.

// ADAM
Adam is good, too. He is looking forward to come to Germany and we started to learn German a bit more intensively. I´ve done stickers with the English and the German word and placed them all over our room :) He slowly understands how we pronounce words an loves our nouns he can put together (just logic ;)). I´m unfortunately not the biggest help with grammar or High German but the biggest shock might come when we touch down in the Allgäu :).

// SPRING
The weather is still very changeable. While there are bush fires in Sydney we had rain for about 1,5 weeks. The summer only starts beginning of December but if there is a nice day we have already 31 degrees – which is enough! I have Hay fever here, too. I didn´t expect that but luckily they have plant based tablets here as well :)

//JOAN AND JAMES
Mid of October we each took a few days of as Adam´s mum and her Partner were visiting us for a week. It was great to finally meet them in person!
James is a Kiwi and both went back to England last year in January, the last ones of Adam´s relatives.
We´ve treated our self very well and went out for dinner and lunch a lot. We´ve showed them the Hot Springs, went to the beach and made a river cruise from the city to one of the suburbs. They showed me how to play “Blob” (a newzealand card game which is like our “Aufzug”) and we had a great week all up! On Saturday Joan invited me for High Tea at the Windsor Hotel, which was wonderful, and we had time to get to know each other even better. I´m really looking forward to seeing them again in England :)

// LANEWAY LEARNING
I was lucky and got another 2 spots in those very popular courses:
1.     How to make a wallet our of a Tetrapak
2.     Easy crochet – we crochet a necklace
Both courses were fantastic again :) I loved the idea with the wallet so much that I simply did one for all my colleagues before Giovanni had the idea to offer them to our customers as well. I´ve sold one already ;)
I´ll really miss this courses! I wonder if we have something like that in Germany and if not… I think it would be worth looking into a similar model :)

// BRUNSWICK
Close to the end of our time here we finally managed to go out with one of our flatmates. It was very spontaneous which it probably needed to be ;) Beside that we made a bike tour and covered some of the attractions in Brunswick, which we´ve only seen from the car so far. We went to the main cemetery, did a “Graffiti-Photoshoot” (Melbourne is famous for Murals and Graffiti after all) and had lunch in our favourite bar. There is plenty of other things to do, of course, but we still have some time left ;) Pics are attached!

// THE RACES
Beginning of November was when the Horse races and the famous Spring Carnival were starting. A great spectacle where everyone gets dressed up (with hats, dresses, tailcoats, top hats etc.), bets on horses and enjoys the time at the races. It didn´t appeal to me at all in the first place and I only had planed to be at one of the train stations on Melbourne Cup Day (which was a Tuesday and bankholiday) to take pictures of all the beautiful people. But when a friend of Bron´s pulled out on short notice they thought about me – WOOOHOOOO! It was amazing! To see something like that closely is awesome even if I felt sorry for the horses sometimes… but the atmosphere! Every racing day has a different theme or topic and the Derby Day was all in “Black & White”. Bronya and Michelle got there hair and make-up done before they picked me up, and after a bottle of French champagne we made our way to the racecourse in Flemington. I was blown away by the variety of fascinators (I didn´t know what that was before but it is something you wear in your hair, not a hat, that fascinates people). We got really close to the animals and the racecourse so that the 10year old girl in me just wanted to sit on one of the horses :)
At some stage we´ve seen a guy in Leather pants (the traditional ones from Bavaria) and he explained to me that he got them at the October Fest – hahaha – that´s brilliant! You go to a horse race in Melbourne and find an Aussie in Leather pants :)
We had the greates day with 26 degrees and blue skies :) It couldn´t have been any better! I´ve attached heaps of pics for you ;)

// THIS AND THAT
Adam finally found some really good sand, on a beach we both wouldn´t have thought of: St. Kilda´s “Dog beach”. It´s only possible at low tide or when the high tide is coming. It is on a spit which makes it even better as you only have about 3 hours time before it gets surrounded and taken away by the sea. It´s great to watch them fall. Adam put his Video´s on Youtube now :) Here some links in case you are curious:

We found our wedding rings, too :) 10 minutes hehe. I finally attached the pic from the engagement ring – as I missed it last time.
We decided as well to come to Germany/Europe for now. I don´t have a Visa anyway and as we were both not really convinced we decided to take our time and see what the other side of the world has to offer. Therefore we are mentally busy with shutting our lifes here down and get everything done till December. I´m really looking forward to coming home but I´m as well concerned how well I can adapt again. I have big worries that I´m not prepared for snow or Christmas at all (even if I know it is coming) – therefore I expect a culture shock which is probably 2 times heavier… but we´ll see. It will definitely be emotional!

That´s it from my side (for this time).
Lots of love,
Baba
