Hello lovely readers,

this month was emotionally very eventful – and is still. As closer we get to the end of my time here, as more nervous and confused I am. It continues to go up and down, every week another situation. That´s why I don´t make any more forecasts or plans here anymore, it´s just not possible! Potential jobs and other events just pull everything apart and there are still too many variables.

At the moment I struggle with seeing things clear and making decisions, as they all would start a chain reaction… and I wanna be sure to make the right ones for me - or better us.

We try to keep up the positive energy and will find a way :) Here now the news, not much this time but even more exciting and with heaps of pics:

// DAY 532 – 582

// THE LOVELY WORK... OR WHY WORKING FOR SOMEONE DICTATES OUR LIFE

There are not many news from the Café. I´m still working Tuesday – Thursday (with exceptions when Tenille, my collegue, can´t make it). We finally found a female chef and are now open on Saturdays as well (this shift is done by my other collegue Fatima as T and me are not able/willing to do Saturdays). You can definitely tell that we get more customers from week to week and I really hope that I soon can work with T everyday as otherwise it gets kind of boring…

I still do the Tennis lessons, too. It slowly gets better and it is always great to see how these little ones progress :) but I struggle a bit with the setup. The organisation is quite on short notice, most games I don´t know and then there are the parents watching (as one lesson is only 30 minutes) and that´s really annoying. Well, the new term starts in October and till then I have to see if I continue or not. It´s not really worth it… will see. I hope I can show you some pics at some stage ;)

Finally something with my design application has happened as well. I´ve got an invitation for an interview up in Sydney. The company SKINS are re-locating their Headquaters from Switzerland back to Australia and therefore are searching for a Designer. They do compression garments for athletes and as I developed the Techfit range within adidas they were really interested. So I took a Wednesday off and flew to Sydney to catch up with them. I felt well prepared, with the help from Bronya and Google, and was ready for everything – just not what happened then! It was only her and me, no one from the agency or company – ok – then, after a short introduction on the company aso. she started asking me questions about my CV – ok as well – and after about 20 minutes she finally tells me that they are searching for a developer as well and that she haven´t had a look at my portfolio yet. To keep it short: I felt tricked! To get me fly up to Sydney for a Design position and then kind of trying to sell me the Developer position. Anyway. It didn´t work out in the end which is ok. I wasn´t 100% convinced…

A lot of things were happening for Adam, too. He had a second interview for the teaching job and got it offered a few days later :) Personally he haven´t had such a good feeling about the interview and therefore kept looking for other jobs. And as it always is everything´s happening at the same time! So now he has 2 jobs, one from Monday – Friday and the other one Saturdays and Sundays. It probably will be too much longterm but we will see… first of all he is quite happy that the money flows ;)

//  SPRING IN AUSTRALIA... OR WHAT I CALL SUMMER ;)

It´s officially SPRING :)… with temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees (up in Sydney even more!) – unbelievable, isn´t it? I just can´t believe it, one moment we are still heating and the next moment we can leave the house in shorts. Crazy! :)

But they´ve warned me that August and September can be quite like our April… we´ll see.

// WE ARE BACK ON THE ROAD... OR THE COMFORTS OF GERMAN PRODUCTS

As Adam is back to work (and in his occupation a car is requested) we have a rental car again, nothing less then a VW Golf :) Real German Quality hehe

We immediately took advantage of it, of course, and made our way to the Hot Springs again, they are just too good! Hopefully there will be more trips to come…

We as well had a flat tyre the other day and finally had to change tyres again :) Has been a while. Beside that Adam enjoys the driving with Turbo and is looking forward to the german Autobahns :) I hardly can wait to drive again, too… has been a few month. With the rental cars they only assign one driver (Standard) and I don´t really need it. Melbourne has as well quite strange rules sometimes and with all the trams I´m not to keen anyway…

// SPARETIME... OR WHAT´S FAR MORE IMPORTANT BESIDE WORK :)

We went to the “Fat Freddy´s Drop” concert and it was EPIC! I didn´t know them live but from the first song onwards it just put us right back to Wellington! Simply great music from New Zealand! Worth checking out :)

Tim had his 35^th birthday and organised a little Backyard Party and I crafted a few paper flowers at my laneway learning course :)

There is as well one thing I was really sad about: Adam couldn´t make it to Sydney with me because of his new teaching job :( Unfortunately I couldn´t get the money for the flights back either so I decided to go on my own. I could even stay with my host mum (with whom I lived 7 years ago while I was doing my internship in Sydney) and hoped I could catch up with some other people I know. I was definitely looking forward to it – it was just a real pity that we couldn´t do it together.

// SYDNEY...OR BACK INTO THE PAST

Thursday evening after work I made my way (with only hand luggage, just saying) to Sydney. After a few delays I arrived in Balmain at 1am and was very happy that Kristin left a key for me somewhere. What an act! Just 1,5 hours flight but 6 hours travelling.

Friday, first of all, I had a sleep in and then made my way to the City. I had a few flashbacks in the morning already (as the house looks pretty much like 7 years ago... and in general nothing seems to have changed) and it continued in the CBD. First stop was the german bakery in the Queen Victoria Building. I needed a Salami bun and a Brezel :) Beside that I had a stroll, took a ride with the ferry and just enjoyed the day! Sydney is and will always be BEAUTIFUL! At dinner I´ve finally seen Kristin again and even she hasn´t changed! She helped counting the votes (as it was the election´s weekend in Australia: the labour party won and Tony Abbott is the new Prime Minister, yes, I know about politics ;)). We had a great evening with Steak and wine and talked a lot about old times... funny, I didn´t really think I would come back there again :)

Saturday morning we went for brunch with Anna, Kristin´s niece, in Balmain. This suburb is still one of my favourites! Not too far from the center but still far enough. After I bought some sunscreen (as they said it would be 30 degrees!!!) I took the bus to Coogee beach. That was packed! I found it warm, too, and as well had my togs underneath, but they were nuts! Like in the peak of summer... everyone was in the water and sunbathing. Note to myself: We are in AUSTRALIA!

On Sunday I took the ferry to Manly to check out the famous beach (as I haven´t done that in 2006). The weather wasn´t that great anymore and so the people here were rather in wetsuits on their surfboards. But there was a very nice market in the small Manly and as well a german Beercafé – no one has to tell me that twice ;) Later I cooked dinner for Kristin and monday morning I spent in Balmain to buy some flowers and wine to say "Thank you". It´s fantastic to have a place to stay! Unfortunately it´s not as easy when you live with other people...

All up Sydney was great but after 3 full days I was as well ready for Melbourne. I think it was great to do a trip to Sydney again. The location is hardly beatable but somehow I feel more comfortable in Melbourne now.

// ANNIVERSARY... OR HOW FAST A YEAR GOES BY

The trip to Sydney was planned for the both of us, as I said, as we had our 1st anniversary on the 7th of September... quite crazy how time is flying! It feels longer hehe (good or bad sign?) ;)

Anyway, we haven´t hardly seen each other in a few weeks as Adam´s Mo-Fr job has mad hours during the night and he sometimes comes home in the morning. Therefore I was extremely happy when he showed up at my workplace at 7am to surprise me with flowers :) Next weekend we will definitely catch up on some celebration...

...therefore more next time.

Hallo liebe Leser,

dieser Monat war ein emotional ereignisreicher – und ist es immer noch. Je näher wir dem Ende meiner Zeit hier kommen, desto nervöser und verwirrter bin ich. Es geht weiterhin auf und ab, jede Woche eine andere Situation. Daher mache ich hier keine Prognosen oder Pläne mehr, es ist einfach nicht möglich! Potentielle Jobs und Ereignisse schmeißen alles über den Haufen und es gibt noch zu viele Variablen.

Ich tu mir schwer im Moment klar zu sehen und Entscheidungen zu treffen, da jede eine andere Kettenreaktion auslöst... und ich will natürlich sicher sein die für mich bzw. uns richtige zu treffen.

Wir versuchen einfach die positive Energie aufrecht zu erhalten und alles wird sich finden :) Hier die Neuigkeiten, nicht viele diesmal aber umso aufregender und mit vielen Bildern:

// TAG 532 – 582

// DIE LIEBE ARBEIT... ODER WARUM DAS ARBEITEN FÜR JEMANDEN UNSER LEBEN BESTIMMT

Es gibt nicht viel Neues im Café. Ich arbeite immer noch Dienstag – Donnerstag (mit Ausnahmen wenn Tenille, meine Kollegin, mal nicht kann). Wir haben endlich eine Köchin gefunden und öffnen jetzt auch Samstags (diese Schicht übernimmt meine andere Kollegin Fatima da T und ich beide nicht können/wollen). Man merkt von Woche zu Woche dass wir mehr Kundschaft bekommen und somit hoffe ich bald jeden Tag mit T zusammen arbeiten zu können da es sonst doch etwas langweilig ist...

Tennisstunden gebe ich auch noch. Es bessert sich langsam und es ist immer wieder cool zu sehen wie die Kleinen Fortschritte machen :) Ich tu mir allerdings doch etwas schwer mit dem Ablauf. Die Organisation ist immer etwas kurzfristig, die meisten Übungen kenn ich nicht und dann sind da noch die Eltern die zugucken (eine „Stunde“ geht nur 30 Minuten) und das ist manchmal echt etwas nervig. Naja, der neue Term geht im Oktober los und bis dahin muss ich mir überlegen ob ich weitermache oder nicht. Rentieren tut es sich nicht wirklich... mal sehen. Ich hoffe ich kann euch irgendwann ein Foto zeigen ;)

Auch bei meinen Designbewerbungen hat sich etwas getan. Ich habe doch tatsächlich eine Einladung zum Vorstellungsgespräch in Sydney bekommen. Die Firma SKINS verlegt ihre Zentrale aus der Schweiz zurück nach Australien und war daher auf der Suche nach einem Designer. Die machen Compressions Ware für Sportler und da ich ja bei adidas die Techfit Kollektion betreut habe waren sie sehr interessiert. Also hab ich an einem Mittwoch frei genommen und bin nach Sydney geflogen um mich mit denen zu treffen. Ich fühlte mich gut vorbereitet, dank der Hilfe von Bronya und Google, und war auf alles gefasst – nur nicht auf das was dann kam! Es waren nur sie und ich, keiner von der Agentur und kein anderer von der Firma – ok – dann, nach einer kleinen Einführung in die Firma usw. fing sie an mir Fragen zu meinem Lebenslauf zu stellen – auch ok – und nach so ca. 20 Minuten eröffnete sie mir das sie auch einen Developer suchen und das sie sich mein Portfolio noch gar nicht angeschaut hat. Ums kurz zu machen: Ich fühlte mich ausgetrickst! Mich für eine Designposition anfliegen zu lassen und mir dann unterschwellig die andere Position zu verkaufen. Wie auch immer. Letzten Endes hat es nicht geklappt und es ist auch ok so. War nicht 100% davon überzeugt...

Bei Adam hat sich diesmal einiges getan. Er hatte ein zweites Vorstellungsgespräch für die Lehrerstelle und hat sie ein paar Tage später auch bekommen :) Er selbst hatte allerdings kein so gutes Gefühl nach dem Gespräch mit dem Chef und hat sich daher auch anderweitig umgesehen. Und wie es eben immer so ist passiert dann alles zur gleichen Zeit! Jetzt hat er also 2 Jobs, einen von Montag bis Freitag und den anderen Samstag und Sonntag. Auf lange Zeit wird das wahrscheinlich zu viel aber wir werden sehen... er ist erstmal sehr froh dass wieder Geld reinkommt ;)

//  FRÜHLING IN AUSTRALIEN... ODER WAS ICH SOMMER NENNE ;)

Wir haben offiziell FRÜHLING :)... mit Temperaturen zwischen 20 und 25 Grad (in Sydney sogar mehr!) – unglaublich oder? Ich kann das einfach immer noch nicht fassen aber im einen Moment heizen wir noch und im nächsten kann man schon wieder in kurzen Sachen rausgehen. Nicht viel mit Übergangszeit. Verrückt! :)

Allerdings haben mich alle vorgewarnt das der August und September so ein bisschen wie unser April sein können... also wir werden sehen.

// WIR SIND WIEDER MOBIL... ODER DIE ANNEHMLICHKEITEN DEUTSCHER WERTARBEIT

Da Adam jetzt wieder arbeitet (und in seinem Berufsfeld ein Auto Pflicht ist) haben wir jetzt wieder einen Leihwagen, und zwar einen VW Golf :) Echte deutsche Qualität hehe

Wir haben das natürlich sofort ausgenutzt und uns wieder auf den Weg zu den Hot Springs gemacht, die sind einfach zu gut! Mehr Ausflüge werden hoffentlich folgen...

Einen Platten hatten wir auch schon und haben beide endlich mal wieder einen Reifen gewechselt :)

Ansonsten jedoch genießt Adam das fahren mit Turbo und freut sich jetzt schon auf die deutschen Autobahnen :) Ich kanns auch kaum erwarten mal wieder zu fahren... ist schon ein paar Monate her. Bei den Leihautos hier ist es Standard immer einen Fahrer einzutragen und ich brauch es ja nicht wirklich. Außerdem hat Melbourne teilweise „interessante“ Verkehrsregeln und mit den Trams überall muss ich sagen bin ich auch gar nicht so scharf drauf...

// DIE FREIZEIT... ODER WAS NEBEN DER ARBEIT VIEL WICHTIGER IST :)

Wir waren auf dem „Fat Freddy´s Drop“ Konzert und es war HAMMER! Ich kannte die live nicht aber vom Ersten Song an fühlten wir uns beide zurückversetzt nach Wellington! Einfach tolle, neuseeländische Musik! Unbedingt mal reinhören :)

Tim hatte seinen 35 Geburtstag und eine kleine Gartenparty organisiert und ich habe ein paar Papierblumen in meinem Kurs mit Laneway learning gebastelt :)

Einen Wehmutstropfen gibt’s dann doch: Adam konnte nun leider nicht mit nach Sydney wegen des Lehrerjobs :( Leider bekam ich auch die Flüge nicht zurückerstattet und so hatte ich beschlossen wenigstens alleine zu fliegen. Ich durfte sogar bei meiner Gastmama bleiben (bei der ich vor 7 Jahren gewohnt habe als ich mein Praktikum in Sydney gemacht habe) und wollte mich noch mit ein paar anderen Leuten treffen die ich dort kenne. Ich hab mich jedenfalls sehr drauf gefreut – war nur echt schade dass wir das nicht zu zweit machen konnten.

// SYDNEY...ODER ZURÜCK IN DIE VERGANGENHEIT

Donnerstag Abend nach der Arbeit bin ich also (nur mit Handgepäck bewaffnet, Anmerkung der Redaktion) nach Sydney. Nach einigen Verspätungen habe ich Balmain dann um 1 Uhr morgens erreicht und war froh das Kristin mir einen Schlüssel gelegt hatte. Was für ein Akt! Für 1,5 Stunden Flug 6 Stunden Reisezeit.

Freitag hab ich erstmal ausgeschlafen und mich dann auf den Weg in die Stadt gemacht. Morgens hatte ich schon einige Flashbacks (das Haus sieht aus wie vor 7 Jahren... überhaupt scheint sich kaum etwas verändert zu haben) und in der Stadt gings dann weiter. Erster Gang war zur Deutschen Bäckerei im Queen Victoria Building. Ein Salamisemmel und eine Breze mussten her :) Ansonsten hab ich einen Spaziergang gemacht, bin mit der Fähre gefahren und hab einfach nur den Tag genossen! Sydney ist und bleibt WUNDERSCHÖN! Am Abend hab ich dann endlich Kristin wiedergesehen. Auch sie hat sich nicht verändert! Sie war beim Stimmen auszählen helfen (da in Australien Wahlen waren: die Labour Partei mit Tony Abbott hat gewonnen, ja ich weiß Bescheid, noch eine Anmerkung der Redaktion ;)). Wir hatten einen tollen Abend mit Steak und Wein und redeten viel über alte Zeiten... echt witzig, hätte nicht gedacht dass ich da noch mal sein werde :)

Samstag sind wir als erstes mit Anna, Kristins Nichte, zum Brunchen in Balmain. Diesen Vorort finde ich nach wie vor super! Nicht zu weit weg vom Zentrum und dennoch weit genug. Nachdem ich mir Sonnencreme gekauft hatte da 30 Grad!!! vorraus gesagt waren, gings auf an den Coogee Beach. War der voll! Ich fands schon warm und hatte auch meinen Bikini drunter aber die waren ja verrückt! Wie im Hochsommer... alle im Wasser und am Sonnenbaden. Notiz an Barbara: Wir sind in AUSTRALIEN!

Sonntag bin ich mit der Fähre nach Manly gefahren und hab mir auch diesen Strand angesehen (hatte ich 2006 nicht gemacht). Das Wetter war nicht mehr so gut und daher waren hier eher alle im Neo auf den Surfbrettern zu sehen. In dem kleinen Örtchen gabs allerdings einen sehr schönen Markt und ein deutsches Biercafé – muss man mir ja nicht 2x sagen ;) Abends hab ich für Kristin gekocht und den Montag Morgen hab ich in Balmain verbracht und noch Blumen und Wein als Dankeschön organisiert. Es ist so hilfreich eine Anlaufstation zu haben wo man bleiben kann! Leider ist das wenn man mit anderen zusammen wohnt kaum möglich...

Insgesamt war Sydney toll doch nach 3 vollen Tagen war ich auch wieder bereit für Melbourne. Ich glaube es war gut noch mal einen Ausflug nach Sydney zu machen. Die Lage ist kaum zu schlagen aber irgendwie fühl ich mich dann in Melbourne doch schon wohler.

// ANNIVERSARY... ODER WIE SCHNELL EIN JAHR VERGEHT

Der Ausflug nach Sydney war ja ursprünglich für uns beide gedacht, da wir am 7.9.13 unser „Einjähriges“ hatten... schon verrückt wie schnell die Zeit vergeht! Fühlt sich schon viel länger an hehe (gutes oder schlechtes Zeichen?) ;)

Jedenfalls hatten wir uns schon vor Sydney nur sporadisch Nachts gesehen da Adam mit seinem Mo-Fr´s job echt verrückte Arbeitszeiten hat und oft bis spät in die Nacht oder Morgens arbeitet. Daher hatte ich mich riesig gefreut als er um 7 Uhr morgens dann mit Blumen vor dem Café stand und mich bei der Arbeit überrascht hat :) Und nächstes Wochenende holen wir das feiern schließlich nach...

...somit mehr beim nächsten Mal.
